Restless curiosity in the professional life of Laszlo Wagner led to the discovery of merbau, the hardwood used to fabricate our line of windows, doors, and architectural components.
“We were privileged as high-end custom builders in Europe, Canada and Florida to be engaged by the most sophisticated clientele and the most demanding professionals for over 38 years. Our reputation built on a never ending search for excellence, authenticity and originality, and that search led us to many continents in the procurement of materials and craftsmanship.”
“During one of my trips I found myself sitting at a solid slab al fresco dining table nested under the canopy of tropical trees, exposed to the daily spectacle of sunshine and rain. The table was planted by my host in his garden in Bali, 23 years earlier to commemorate the birth of his first-born. The table was straight as an arrow, and measured over ten feet in length, four feet in width and over six inches in thickness. The insignificant cracking and checking of this unfinished, untreated, solid piece of lumber intrigued me. Within weeks and with help of the Kuala Lumpur based Malaysian Timber Council, the specie was identified as “Merbau.” Its physical characteristics confirmed the wood as a suitable candidate for the production of exterior architectural components, exposed to tropical, subtropical and coastal conditions.”
"My idea earlier conceived turned into an action plan."
"While studying architecture at the Technische Hochschule in Vienna, I spent several months dedicated to the design of fenestration. This, combined with the experience gained as a custom high-end residential builder, working with the various species of wood used by numerous manufacturers provided me with the foundation and confidence to develop a line of windows and doors of the highest standards. "
"We have created a company owned manufacturing facility at the source of the discovery, employing the custodians of the timber and their remarkable centuries old tradition of woodworking."
“I consider the creation of Luxbaum Windows + Doors one of the most remarkable moments in my professional life. The opportunity to combine the hand crafting skills and traditions of the Balinese carpenters with the most sophisticated European machinery, tooling, and components turned into a rewarding privilege. The proud contentment of the craftsmen, employed by Luxbaum Windows + Doors is reflected in the quality of the product.”
“We are proud of their pride.”
